In our last blogs we have learnt about the benefits of CBD for humans but what about our four-legged friends? CBD can be just as an effective treatment for them, for a variety of reasons. Got a dog or a cat? Read on…
When considering our animal family it is very important to know that THC can have adverse effects on cats and dogs. Cats and dogs are extremely sensitive to THC and can suffer from what vets describe as “marijuana poisoning".
CBD oil in-line with UK regulations contains less than 0.2% THC and in reality almost zero, UK regulations also prohibit CBD products designed specifically for Pets. However, under the regulations of the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate), vets are allowed to prescribe "human" CBD products to animals
As Canna Bits & Bobs abide by all the rules and regulations of the VMD we are not allowed to recommend any specific products for pets. Hopefully in the near future, this will change and we will be able to promote our Full Spectrum oils for use with animals. Here is what the VMD say about Cannabidiol products for pets:
“We consider that veterinary products containing Cannabidiol (CBD) are veterinary medicines and should be regulated as such. We have made this decision on the basis that products containing CBD fulfil the following definition of a veterinary medicine in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations (VMR) by virtue of the effects they have:any substance or combination of substances that may be used in, or administered to, animals with a view either to restoring, correcting or modifying physiological functions by exerting a pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action, or to making a medical diagnosis.
The internet has hundreds of stories and testimonials of pet owners successfully using CBD oil for their pets. It is important to remember that other CBD products which are not pure oil could be harmful to animals, no CBD gummies for them!
Modern Dog Magazine in the USA notes that CBD Oil can be beneficial for dogs who suffer the following conditions, the same can be said for cats too:
If you do plan to supplement your pets’ diet with CBD remember their dose is a lot lower!
The amount of CBD per droplet depends on the concentration of CBD in the liquid. Canna Bits & Bobs Full Spectrum Oil comes in two strengths 5% & 10% and both are in 10ml size. Let’s say you have a 10% bottle of oil which contains 1000 milligrams of CBD. One ml of oil will contain 100 milligrams of CBD because 1000 divided by 10 = 100.
We found this great guide about how to measure the dose correct for your dog and also by you pets weight for cats:https://dogdreamcbd.com/cbd-dosage-chart-for-dogs/
We have no doubt they will love the effects of CBD oil the same as you do!
